Ethiopia 2017

In Fall 2017, I joined a group tour to see the major historic sites in northern Ethiopian cities including Axum, Lalibela, and Bahir Dar, and to meet members of the remaining Jewish communities in Addis Ababa and Gondar. I wrote an extensive article about this eye-opening and emotionally-moving experience, “Ethiopia’s Forgotten Jews Wait for Israel, Their Suitcases Gathering Dust” published in The Forward, March 2, 2018.

My photos below are from this tour, which was organized by the London based magazine Jewish Renaissance in partnership with the British charity Meketa, and led by Meketa’s co-founder Rabbi Sybil Sheridan and Abye Tilahun Lakew, of Addis-based Jacaranda Tours.
